Eight held for countryman’s death; one still at large

Police have launched a manhunt for an Indonesian known as Kalippu in connection with the murder of his countryman.

BINTULU: Eight foreign workers, including three women, are in custody while police are still looking for another suspect connected to a murder case that occurred on Tuesday (July 6).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said all eight suspects were picked up from an oil palm plantation in Sebauh after being notified of the incident.

The suspects are aged between 25 and 43, and Supt Zulkipli added: “We have launched a manhunt for the ninth suspect, identified as Kalippu, an Indonesian in his early 30s.”

In Tuesday’s incident, a foreign worker of the oil palm plantation was found unconscious inside a workers quarters, suffering from multiple wounds on his waist inflicted by a sharp object.

“When my men (Bintulu Criminal Investigation Department or CID) arrived at the scene after recieving a call from the plantation manager around 10pm, the victim was already dead.”

According to Supt Zulkipli, prior to the discovery, around 8pm, eyewitnesses said they saw Kalippu involved in an argument with the deceased.

“They saw the deceased smashing things inside and damaging chicken coops belonging to other workers, before he went into his room.”

Moment later, Kalippu was seen running out from the deceased’s room and disappearing from the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
