SIBU: An elderly man is feared missing following a hunting trip at Rumah Tibau Ulu Poi in Kanowit today.

A spokesperson from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the department received the distress call at 12.45pm regarding a missing person following a police report of a missing person lodged by the victim’s child on March 5, after the victim failed to return home.

“The victim identified as Tigong Injang, 65, was accompanied by two of his friends. They were believed to be hunting in a forest nearby a river about three kilometres away from their longhouse.

“The victim was said to have gone astray and was later unable to be located by his friends,” he said.

A team of firefighters were deployed to the scene and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated.

The search team used the villager’s boat with an estimated time in reaching the scene at around six to ten hours depending on the river current.
