Elderly man found dead in toilet

KOTA SAMARAHAN: An elderly man was found dead in a restaurant toilet in Jalan Expressway yesterday morning (Dec 31).

District police chief DSP Sudirman Kram said police and a paramedics team were sent to the scene following a tipoff around 10.50am.

Police identified the victim as Aman Keritap, 68, from Kampung Sangkalan, Simunjan.

Paramedics from Kota Samarahan Heart Centre confirmed that the victim died at the scene and police have ruled out foul play.

“According to the victim’s wife, she and her husband and granddaughter were on their way to Kuching.

“Upon arriving at Uni Capital area, they stopped at a bank while the victim told her that he wanted to use a toilet at a nearby restaurant.

“When the victim did not show up after a while, his wife and granddaughter went to the restaurant to look for him. A restaurant employee found the victim in the toilet lying unconsciously,” Sudirman said.

The police chief said the victim had heart problems and was scheduled to undergo treatment and surgery at the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre.

The body was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). The case was classified as a sudden death.
