Eleven new Covid-19 cases

KUCHING: Eleven more Sarawakians were diagnosed with Covid-19 yesterday, pushing the number of positive cases to 129.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the new cases comprised six males and five females.

“All these patients have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching. The first positive case was reported on March 13,” Uggah said,

According to him, 49 new Person Under Investigation (PUI) cases were registered to bring the total to 1,126 cases — 129 positive cases, 915 negative cases and 82 cases pending laboratory results.

Of the 49 cases, 34 were reported at SGH, Betong (9), Bintulu (3), Miri (2) and one in Sibu hospital.

“From Jan 11 to March 29, we have a cumulative total of 1,126 PUI cases — (1080 are Malaysians, 25 Chinese citizens, 13 Indonesians, two Vietnamese, two Pakistanis and one each Thai, Canadian, Australian and Japanese.

“We have discharged nine patients while five had died.”

Separately, Uggah, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee chairman, said police have arrested a total of 162 individuals who had flouted the movement control order (MCO) statewide since March 25 up till yesterday.

“Eight of them had been charged in court — five had been sentenced to between two and four months’ imprisonment and three others fined.

“The remaining ones will be charged in court beginning tomorrow (today),” he said in a press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.

Uggah said to-date compliance by Sarawakians on MCO was at 95 per cent.
