SIBU: The Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has proposed that the Tiong Hua Zone and Sentosa Zone be subjected to the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Its coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said this decision was made following increases in positive Covid-19 cases recorded by both zones under the administration of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

“Our committee will hold a meeting tonight (Feb 24) and an announcement on the decision will be made tomorrow.

“I will hold a meeting with the Sibu Division Resident and other members of the committee and we will propose the implementation of the EMCO.

“However, the announcement will be made tomorrow,” said the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing when updating the Covid-19 daily cases for Sibu district virtually through his social media site today.

He said of the 181 positive cases reported in Sibu today, 85 were reported in the SMC areas, 50 in Sibu Jaya and 46 cases in the Sibu Rural District areas.

Other SMC areas that showed an increase in the number of cases included Farley Zone with nine cases and Kiew Nang Zone with seven cases.

Dr Annuar said 38 cases were detected in the Sibu Jaya flats and six in Town Villa.   Both areas are under EMCO.

On the Sibu Rural District areas, he said 34 cases were recorded in longhouses in Bawang Assan, three cases in Pasai, two cases in Durin, four cases in KJD/Assan and three cases in Batang Igan.

“We in Sibu work very hard to ensure that every case can be traced,” said the Nangka assemblyman.
