SIBU: Residents of Sibu are urged to work together and cooperate with authorities to help lower the number of Covid-19 cases.

According to Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee, this is in view of the declining trend of Covid-19 cases recorded in the district for the sixth consecutive week.

“There was a surge in the number of cases in the seventh week from Sibu Jaya. But since then, it has dropped to 253 cases in the 13th week from 715 in the seventh week or a 65 percent drop which is a good improvement.

“That is why it is important for Sibu residents to continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the trend in the number of cases continues to decline,” he said on Sunday (April 4).

“If we can do it in the coming weeks, I am quite confident that we can break the chain of infection in Sibu,” he added.

Dr Annuar, who is also Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister, explained that his target on the number of cases in this week was 280 cases; of which the total number of cases recorded was 252.

For the coming week, he has set a target of 210 or 30 cases per day for Sibu.

Touching on the Ramadan bazaar, Dr Annuar said it would be held at three locations, namely at Dataran Bandar Sibu Phase II, Pelangi Kiosk at Jalan Kampung Nangka and Bandong Walk and that all bazaar hawkers will have to undergo a swab test tomorrow (April 6).
