GEDONG: An additional allocation of RM400,000 each was approved through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for the construction of two churches in the Ulu Gedong area.

According to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the initial funds of RM500,000 each for the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kampung Batu Pengasah and the St Mark Chapel Gayau Church were insufficient due to increased building material prices.

“Former Gedong assemblyman Datuk Naroden Majais notified me of this problem, before we arrived here.

“Since Hari Gawai is approaching, I believe it is appropriate to provide an additional allocation to the churches.

“People will use the church to pray for good health, pray for Sarawak as well as pray for unity among our people regardless of faith or background,” he said during the Gedong-level Mantar Gawai 2022 celebration at the Dewan RTC Ulu Gedong here, yesterday.

During the event, he also presented letters of appointment to seven community leaders.
