BAU: A 54-year-old farmer in Kampung Serasot, Bau faces a RM10,000 fine or imprisonment up to seven years for possessing firearm without a licence under the Arms Act 1960.

He was detained after police raided his house and found a shotgun in his possession last Saturday.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team raided the house in Kampung Serasot under ‘Ops Laras’ after receiving public tip-off.

“The team conducted inspections and found an air shotgun in the house,” he said.

Both the suspect and the weapon were taken to the police station for further action.

Poge said the case will be investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 which provides for a maximum jail term of seven years or a fine of RM10,000 or both.
