KUCHING: The President of Sarawak Football Association (FAS), Dato Posa Haji Majais is confident the state team will continue to compete in the Super League 2018 campaign.
Despite his concern with Sarawak squad current position being ranked in the second bottom place after losses in the hand of Melaka United 4-2 at Melaka United at the Hang Jebat Stadium on Wednesday night, he said: “We are confident the chance to remain competitive in the Super League 2018 is still there despite Sarawak being second at the bottom.
“With the remainder of the matches, we hope our players can achieve positive results, especially in our remaining home matches,” said Posa last Thursday.
More importantly, the players must not miss any more points to achieve their mission, said Posa.
“In this case, everything is possible and the players themselves should know what needs to be done,” he added.
There are four remaining matches, three of which will be played in home – against Penang (August 5-State Stadium, Petra Jaya), against Kedah (September 30- State Stadium, Petra Jaya), against T-Team (October 21-State Stadium, Petra Jaya) – and against Pahang (September 20-Darul Makmur Stadium).
Commenting on last Wednesday night’s match, Dato Posa admitted his disappointment with the team’s defeat.
“It was a disappointing result in a situation that we can at least share one point, “ he said.
“We believe the players have done as much as possible, although the decision favoured the hosts (Melaka United),” he said.
Meanwhile, acting head of Sarawak coach, Pengiran Bala said his players lost their focus after scoring two goals in the first half.
“We played according to the plan and managed to score two goals.
“However, the players began to lose focus afterwards and Melaka United capitalised on the situation to come back with four goals,” said Pengiran.
