KUCHING: The Borneo Cultures Museum will be officially launched on March 4.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the launching ceremony would start with a speech delivered by himself followed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The launching will be done by the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud followed by a projection mapping showcasing Sarawak’s history.

Describing the projection mapping as exciting and interesting, he expressed his enthusiasm that the grand building would finally be opened to the public.

“It is the biggest museum in Malaysia and the second biggest in Southeast Asia. This is something that we have been waiting for a very long time since construction works started in 2014,” he told a press conference here yesterday (Feb 22).

Abdul Karim said the launching ceremony would strictly comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) with only 350 invited guests whereby they would be divided into eight groups and each group would be assigned only certain floors to visit.

“Meanwhile, the Head of State will only be visiting the fifth floor which has the theme ‘Objects of Desire’ showcasing the most cherished objects by Sarawak’s ethnic groups,” he said.

Abdul Karim also disclosed that the museum would be open to the public starting from March 9 with only 500 guests allowed at one time.

He advised the public to pre-book their visit to avoid disappointment and the booking link will be announced on the Borneo Cultures Museum social media as well as the Sarawak Museum website.
