KUCHING: Gym enthusiasts can start going to their favourite gymnasium and start working out again effective June 17.

However, the gyms, be it private or public, will resume operation subject to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government.

The number of people allowed in the gym depends on the size of the gym. The recommended space allocated for each person in the gym is 3m x 3m (9m²).

For example, if the gym covers an area of 100m², only 10 persons are allowed to be in that gym at one time.

At the entrance, users must undergo temperature scanning prior to entering the gym followed by sanitisation of hands. Their temperatures and names shall be recorded for contact tracing purposes.

Users are also required to enter the gym once and exit once during the entire duration of their training to avoid contamination from the outside.

Those who have a fever or other symptoms of Covid-19 such as temperature above 37.5 should be instructed to stay home.

Throughout training time, a user must only use the same equipment and not share it with another user. Once the training session is over, each user has to clean and disinfect the equipment that has been used and placed it back into the original place.

It is also strictly reminded that there shall be no gathering before and after using the gym and that they should train and get out as soon as they are done.

Among other prohibitions were for people to be at the waiting area/lobby and eating food in the gym.

The gym operators are also advised to follow the hygiene procedures outlined such as wearing face masks, providing hand sanitiser at entry point as well as minimum three times sanitisation per day on contact surfaces such as door handles, tables, chairs, equipment and changing room.
