Fined and jail for housebreaking

KUCHING: An unemployed man caught breaking into a house and stealing RM10 in cash was fined RM1,500 and sentenced to two weeks’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today (July 18).

Mohamad Azhar, 33, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into the house of a 34-year-old woman in Kampung Semariang Pinggir, around 6.30 am on July 12.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the accused to serve two months behind bars if he failed to pay the fine.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused was caught by the woman and her husband when they woke up to find the accused in their living room.

The couple found a window grille forced open and upon investigation realised RM10 missing from the purse.

Police were notified came and detained the accused.

Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, who prosecuted, pressed for an appropriate punishment to reflect the severity of the case.
