MIRI: Twelve residents of two flats in Bandar Baru Permyjaya here were damaged by a fire this morning.

The State Fire Department operations centre received an emergency call at 9.25am and despatched firemen from the Lopeng fire station to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found that the fire happened at the ground floor of the building and one of the flat’s front area was 30 percent damaged.

Meanwhile, the adjacent flat was 10 percent damaged.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire at 10.45am.

No casualties were reported as all residents managed to get to safety.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Further north in Lawas, a double-storey grocery store at Jalan PK Hashim also caught fire this early morning.

Lawas Fire and Rescue Station received a distress call on the incident at 12.20am.

Upon firemen’s arrival, the fire had already caused 40 percent damage to the ground floor of the premises.

The fire was believed to have caused by electrical appliances’ failure.

No casualties were reported during the incident and the operation ended at 1.19am.
