KUCHING: Five environmentally friendly gazebos built at the Semariang Cemetery here will provide convenience to visitors said Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

He said that the gazebo is equipped with innovative features that have solar technology to produce lighting at night, including design structures that allow rainwater harvesting which will provide comfort to the visitors coming there.

“The endowment (wakaf) for the construction of the gazebo by the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) is a good effort for the well-being of the Muslim community in particular.

“Therefore, we welcome the implementation of projects that use the Wakaf method that is good and it directly involves community participation,” he said during the launching ceremony for the construction Wakaf of the Semariang cemetery gazebo and Pusat Agama Nurul Saadah, at the Baitulmakmur here, yesterday.

He said Wakaf, as defined by ‘Syarak’ refers to the practice of handing over a property to an administrator for general or specific use, for the purpose of public benefit.

“Therefore, it is a good platform so that the community can contribute to the ummah together, thus becoming a share in the afterlife for Muslims,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the endowment for the construction of the Pusat Agama Nurul Saadah, he welcomed the effort for the well-being of the community.

“This religious centre will be a centre for the study of religious knowledge, including the study of the Quran. We hope the community can take advantage of the infrastructure that will be provided in the future,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman then also expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector in providing welfare contributions to the community in the form of Wakaf or corporate social responsibility (CSR) that brings benefits to the local community.

Members of the public who wish to donate for the following projects can donate by cash, cheque or online transfer.
