SEBUYAU: The agricultural industry in Sebuyau will be further enhanced once the flood mitigation project in the area is completed in 2023.

Infrastructure and Port Development Assistant Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the project was also one of the state government’s efforts in helping rural areas that were experiencing erosion, floods and impact of high tide.

It would also ensure that the Sebuyau area could be utilised for agricultural plantations.

“We know this area has fertile land for agriculture, especially for coconut, pineapple, banana, durian and various types of fruits.

“So, we believe that when this sea bund is completed, Sebuyau can become a food basket area,” he said after visiting the Sebangan Bajong Scheme Block A and Block E project site on Saturday (Aug 7).

He noted that Sebuyau would be linked to the state’s coastal highway and the second trunk road system.

“When the coastal highway project is completed, it will open up the socio-economic, tourism as well as agriculture potential of this area,” he said.
