TANJUNG MANIS: A foreign man was feared drowned after he fell off from a fishing boat.

This took place in Tanjung Manis waters, 18 nautical miles away heading north sea on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Ikbal Ramadan, 27, from Indonesia was found missing around 3.15pm. Earlier around 9.45am the fishing boat departed from Fisheries Development Authority Malaysia (LKIM) Jetty, Tanjung Manis, according to the Fire and Rescue Service Department (Bomba) in a statement.

After receiving a distress call about the incident, a team of firefighters from Tanjung Manis fire and rescue service station (BBP) were despatched to the scene and immediately conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

“On the first day of SAR, the operation used Water Surface Rescue and was divided into four sectors, and the distance of the search was estimated up to 10 nautical miles.

“The search and rescue operation for the victim came to no avail as of today. It was adjourned around 5pm and will resume again around 7.30 am tomorrow,” said in the statement today.

To date, the victim is still missing.
