KUCHING: Former Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary Vernon Kedit has been dismissed from the party by its central leadership council.

Vernon confirmed his departure, having received his termination letter on Monday.

“I have received the termination letter yesterday (April 13). It’s official, I have been sacked,” he said.

According to the letter dated April 1, his dismissal was decided by the party’s central leadership council on March 21.

Vernon noted that with his termination, it was clear that the party had drifted away from its main aim and purpose.

“The whole world can see and judge for itself now how a party founded and predicated on the paramount principle of justice has deviated so far away from its core tenet.

“Anwar Ibrahim was sacked from Umno and the deputy prime minister’s post in 1998 without a reason given. Keadilan was founded to fight this very same injustice.

“Twenty-two years later, he allows his party to do the same to its members without giving a reason other than using a clause in the party’s constitution. Whither justice in Keadilan?”

It was only last Tuesday that Sarawak PKR chairman Larry Sng said the party’s Sarawak chapter had recommended the expulsion of Vernon and 11 other branch leaders for allegedly collaborating with parties outside Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The others were Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, who is the Stampin chairman, Siah Sy Jen (Bandar Kuching), Jemree Sabli (Kota Samarahan), Cyril Langin (Serian), Yen Jebeni (Sri Aman), Nicholas Bawin Anggat (Lubok Antu), Hung Soon Kieng (Lanang), Abdul Raafidin Majidi (Sibu) and Kelvin @ Kilo Lutan (Bintulu), Boniface Willie Tumek (Mas Gading) and Baharuddin Mokhsen (Petra Jaya).

Vernon said the others mentioned had yet to receive any notification on the possibility of their termination.

Vernon, who was the press secretary to former Works Minister Baru Bian prior to the latter’s departure from the party earlier last month, had joined PKR in 2010, and was elected Betong chief in 2014 and 2018, when he was also appointed as Sarawak PKR secretary.
