MIRI: Four men including a foreigner were detained by police for allegedly being involved in several motorcycle theft cases in this district in an operation here, Friday night.

Two of the suspects (second and third left) are being taken to the police station for further investigation.

Acting on information received, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Department detained the suspects, who were having drinks at a shop at Emart Commercial Centre in Tudan, at around 7.30pm.

Miri District Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the suspects were aged between 25 and 45 years old.

He said one of the suspects was an Indonesian while the remaining suspects were locals.

“Following the arrests, a Perodua Kancil car which is believed to be used by the suspects as transportation for their bike theft activities has been confiscated.

“The police also seized a modified T-shaped screwdriver believed to be used by the suspects to unlock motorcycle ignition locks,” he said here.

Stanley said the suspects were remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
