MIRI: A fundraising dinner to help raise money for a new Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) church in Senadin will be held in September.

The event is scheduled for Sept 20 at Mega Hotel here.

BEM Pelita church person-in-charge Roland Tan said the site for the new church would be in Desa Senadin and was bought from Miri Housing in January 2010.

The new church will be known as BEM Cornerstone Senadin Church.

“The combined land size is 0.75 acres. The purchase price was RM500,000 and was paid by BEM Pelita Church,” he elaborated.

The cost for the project is estimated to be RM2.3 million and the construction period is about 18 months.

Tan added that the building committee had applied to Unifor for RM1.3 mln and had established a fundraising programme for the remainder of the amount.

“We hope to start construction by end of 2019 or early January 2020,” he said.
