The police together with the SMC carry out an operation to take down the banners of unlicensed moneylenders in six areas around the town of Sibu.

SIBU: The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD) together with the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) have conducted an Integrated Ops (Ops Bersepadu) to prevent unlicensed money lending activities.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement yesterday said that the operation involved six areas where the banners of the unlicensed moneylenders were being taken down.

The police and SMC representative take off the banner.

“The six areas are Jalan Pahlawan, Jalan Camar, Jalan Dr Wong Soon Kai 20B2, Lorong Sena, Lorong Oya, and Lorong Diong Kik.

“A total of 39 banners have been taken down and indirectly can help the prevention of the activities of unlicensed money lenders,” he said in the statement.

Zulkipli said that as a preventive measure the public is advised to be vigilant when making any loans involving money lending without a licence.

“This will bring more problems and harm other than solutions,” he stressed.
