KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas launched the Government Pensioners’ Association in Spaoh on Sunday.
Uggah, in his speech earlier on, urged the members to help the community.
“I hope retired teachers can help to provide free tuition to students,” he said.
At the function, he also announced a grant of RM30,000 from himself and Betong MP Datuk Robert Lawson Chuat to the association.
On politics, Uggah hoped the people would continue to remain united and support the government as this would greatly facilitate the implementation of all projects.
“In view of the coming election, the opposition will come as usual. They will instigate the people and will spread lies to discredit the government.
“But for us, we have no time to quarrel. We want to improve the people’s livelihood and assist them in getting better incomes,” he said. Also present at the event were Spaoh Government Pensioner’s Association chairman Hazmi Jahan and political secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Richard Rapu.
