LAWAS: The state government will continue to look for ways to raise funds for Yayasan Sarawak so that it can help more underprivileged people to further their education.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, since the establishment of Yayasan Sarawak, many had received educational assistance such as loans, scholarships and flight ticket assistance.

“In order for the more disadvantaged groups to continue their education, the state government is committed to finding resources to raise funds for Yayasan Sarawak.

“For example, the increase in timber premiums imposed by the state government is one way to raise funds so that Yayasan Sarawak can be of help to many more Sarawakian children,” he said at Yayasan Sarawak’s roadshow at the Lawas Indoor Stadium here, yesterday.

Awang Tengah said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had increased the school uniform aid amount to RM200 (previously RM100).
