KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pantai Damai Branch continues to play a proactive role in channelling basic necessities to the needy.

Previously, aid was channelled following the Covid-19 pandemic through the services of community leaders whereas now the party’s sub-branch leaders have been tasked to distribute aid to recipients.

PBB vice-president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the initiative was to ensure that every leadership in the village actively and effectively play their respective roles.

“Now we want the sub-branch leadership to play a role in providing assistance to the needy members of the community,” he said after a meeting with the sub-branch leaders of PBB Pantai Damai here on Sunday.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is Pantai Damai assemblyman, said many villagers within the constituency were affected by the movement control order (MCO) implemented last March to control the spread of Covid-19.

“Therefore, we have taken the initiative to provide assistance since the MCO was introduced to help the low-income group, poor, senior citizens, orphans and those who have lost their income,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman urged the sub-branch leadership to prioritise welfare programmes to ensure that more people in need could be helped.

“Although our assistance may seem small, it gives great meaning to the recipients who are in dire need,” he said.
