MIRI: A 28-year-old man was detained today (Sept 23) for stealing a handphone worth RM400 from another man on Sept 19.

The incident happened when the suspect pretended to be interested in buying a handphone from the victim after they met at Miri hospital here on Sept 19 at 9.41pm.

According to police sources, the suspect had assured the victim that he is going to buy the handphone, but had to show it to his wife first before making the final decision.

Without hesitation, the victim handed over the handphone to the suspect for him to show it to his wife, whom the suspect claimed was inside the hospital building.

The suspect, unfortunately, was never to be seen again, prompting the victim to lodge a police report.

Following the report, a team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) found and arrested the suspect at Kampung Wireless around 2pm today (Sept 23) and seized the handphone.
