KUCHING: The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) secured 38 state-funded projects with a maximum expenditure capped at RM262,797,134 under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the projects cover a range of initiatives, including 33 physical projects that involve the construction of 2,961 housing units, upgrading of infrastructure, enhancement of amenities, and execution of road works.

As of now, he said, these projects are progressing at various stages of implementation.

Meanwhile, the remaining five were non-physical projects, including grants for Mutiara Mortgage and Credit, Strata Title Management, a survey on housing needs and demand in Sarawak, and feasibility studies on Skim Pembesaran Kampung Teku, Sibu and PPR Kidurong, Bintulu.

“In addition to its involvement in the implementation of the 12MP, HDC has demonstrated proactive engagement in the development and management of a diverse portfolio of five joint venture projects.

“These projects involve a range of housing solutions, including affordable apartments, single-storey Sri Pertiwi, Sri Pertiwi medium-cost houses, single-storey Spektra medium-cost houses, Spektra medium-cost apartments and shophouses

“This multifaceted approach not only underscores HDC’s versatility but also amplifies its dedication to addressing a spectrum of housing needs, thereby contributing significantly to the holistic and sustainable development of the communities it serves,” he said at HDC’s Golden Jubilee dinner which was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Penview Convention Centre, Demak here yesterday (Nov 19).

His text-of-speech was read out by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang.

Dr Sim said his government is committed to shaping a unique Sarawak-owned brand that’s at the core of realising the state’s affordable housing programme.

“Our big picture? To make affordable housing more available and impactful in the market. We’re carefully customising these options to precisely match the housing needs of both the middle-income group (M40) and low-income group (B40).

“By building a brand that’s deeply connected to the local vibe, we’re not just adding to the regional identity but making sure we’re hitting the bullseye in providing a sustainable and spot-on solution to the various housing needs in our community,” he said.

“This comprises 92 units of single-story semi-D houses and an additional 13 units of detached houses.

“The successful execution of this project is not only a testament to HDC’s commitment to excellence in urban development but has also resulted in a commendable financial outcome, generating a revenue of RM5.490 million.

“This achievement underscores HDC’s ability to deliver high-quality housing solutions and contributes substantively to both the housing market and the economic landscape,” he added.
