TATAU: A total of 87 units of double-storey detached houses will be developed here to accommodate the increasing local population.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the houses will be built on Lot 170, 287 and 290 in the Buan Lot District under the Tatau Village Expansion Scheme.

“The construction of this project will solve the problem of population density in Kampung Baru and Kampung Dagang and also solve the problem of frequent flooding in the two settlements.

“This area is located only 2.5 kilometres from Tatau Town and we hope this project can be completed within two years,” he said in a press conference after conducting a work visit to the housing project site here yesterday (Jan 10).

Abang Johari also mentioned that the cost of the infrastructure, including the installation of utilities will be borne by the Sarawak government.

“This is a special scheme for those under the B40 and M40 group. When the project is completed, the cost of this infrastructure will not be included in the price of the house, and buyers only need to pay the price of the house.

“The deposit of RM10,000 for the house will also be paid by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

“Buyers only need to pay monthly installment where the loan is offered by Mutiara Mortgage and Credits Sdn Bhd with a fee as low as RM300,” he pointed out.

Abang Johari added that the new housing development project is the result of the Sarawak government’s initiative to help residents, especially the B40 and M40 groups to own houses at a reasonable price.

“At the same time, the village expansion project is timely which in the long run could help the Sarawak government’s efforts in developing new settlements in Tatau Town,” he said.

Earlier, the Premier chaired a close-door meeting with the Board of Directors of Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) at Wisma Bintulu.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie and BDA board of directors deputy chairman Haidar Khan Asghar Khan.
