KUCHING: Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin has dismissed the notion labelling him as a political frog following his switch from Pakatan Harapan (PH) to Perikatan Nasional (PN).

He said the situation in his former political party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) had left him no choice but to leave because of the need to develop his constituency.

“I know that many have been talking about my decision to quit PKR and join the PN government. They called us katak (frog).

“I have to make a wise decision to ensure the wellbeing of the rakyat,” he said during an event in Kpg Seratau, Siburan on Sunday.

The Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister said the only way was to have a good working relationship with the ruling state and federal governments.

“I was in the opposition party for 20 years. I’d lost three times in the election and finally I won the people’s vote.

“Because at the end of the day, as people’s representative, I must acknowledge how my choice would affect the rakyat,” he added.

He also assured that projects that were slated under his constituency to be relooked and brought to the cabinet.

“As representative of the people, I would not like to see any delays on development projects that had been submitted to the government,” he said.

On another note, he said Puncak Borneo Parliamentary Service Centre had channelled over RM800,000 worth of food assistance to 19,000 recipients under Puncak Borneo during the Covid-19 pandemic.
