Immortals from Brunei, the winners of the Grand Final Kenyalang eSports.

KUCHING: Competitive electronic game playing, or commercially known as eSports, is undergoing a major evolution as the players are diverse and the games offered keep on variegating, making players posting massive growth.

The eSports industry enables to generate high revenues and interest of youth from entire the world nowadays.

Even developed countries like South Korea, America, Germany and China are showing rapid growth of eSports.

Sarawak is no exception to this global phenomenon as more and more people in the state are gaining interest in eSports.

Kenyalang eSports Tournament, Training and Trade, or KES3T, is an initiative by Sarawak eSports community in collaboration with few agencies.

KES3T is led by Koperasi Belia Inovatif Sarawak (KOBIS), Anime Comics & Games Association, Kenyalang eSports Club, and few other local eSports groups.

It was established when they noticed that eSports have potential to grow and aimed to fit eSports in the society just like a real game and sport, so they created a platform for eSports in Sarawak.

For the past 10 months, more than 40 crews have been working for this competition and 165 squads with more than 800 gamers fighting in 8 Qualifying Series.

The tournament was held at 11 Ridgeway, here, from Dec 8 to 9.

The grand final for Kenyalang eSports, the Mobile Legends Challenge 2018 took place on Sunday with 32 squads from the 8 qualifying series.

It was a long journey for KES3T since March, after 8 qualifying series, from Kuching to Miri, and the winners for the grand final were Immortals from Brunei.

Immortals said they were really happy with their achievement in winning the tournament.

The Immortals manager said: ‘’We are surprised and honoured to be the winners. With a high hope from Brunei, we are always gathering, planning and practicing together. Skills, stamina and long hours of practice are required to win this tournament.’

Team Bubok from Sarawak won the second place, BGC Team Level third with BGC Scarlett Heart fourth.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Mohd Nizam Bin Ismail, the director of Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and Zaiwin Kassim, the chairman of Koperasi Belia Inovatif Sarawak (KOBIS), an organiser for Kenyalang eSports.

KES3T is still working on getting more support and collaboration in order to be more outstanding in future.

It plans to endorse more activities related to esports in the future by featuring more games such as PUBG, Dota 2, Tekken 7, Fifa18, and more, depending on the request.

This is exactly the platform for gamers to step up their games and skills.

KES3T is not only focusing on developing area. They would go deep down to rural if they could to find the hidden gems of eSport, because the potential gamers can be anywhere and KES3T are determined to find them.

So, let’s support the event to bring the standard of eSport in Sarawak to a higher level.
