SIBU: A social media influencer seeking to supplement her income ended up losing RM16,799 in a job scam instead recently.

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that the 28-year-old victim lodged a police report on Sunday (Mar 12)

The victim came across an advertisement on Facebook offering a ‘live-host’ job and a commission of RM1,000 for at least 30 hours of work per week.

The victim was interested in the job as she wanted to increase her income.

“She reached out to the Facebook account owner for the job. She was then asked to register her personal information and pay a registration fee of RM1 through an application to secure the job.

“After registering herself and paying the fee, the victim received a message saying the process was unsuccessful.

“However, not long after, she received another message saying that a transaction of RM16,799 was made without her knowledge,” Zulkipli said.

He advised the public not to be easily swayed by dubious job offers that promise lucrative rewards, and check the company or agency before applying or accepting any job offers.
