THE Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has been urged to speed up the two delayed projects in the Daro constituency.

Safiee Ahmad (GPS-Daro) was referring to the two projects approved by the Premier back in 2018 – the Passin-Matu 17.6km road, and the second phase of the Bawang Assan/Tanjung Manis/Sg Ilas/Kg Sabena 24km road.

“Unfortunately, both projects, which were expected to be completed by the end of this year, have been abandoned due to the termination of the contractor.”

He pointed that because the projects had been abandoned, residents in both of the areas were truly disappointed.

“Therefore, I urge that the method of completing the projects can be prioritised through rescue contractor.

“If the projects are established through re-tender, the time it will take to complete it will be much longer.”

He said this while debating the State Budget 2023 during the fourth day of 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Thursday (Nov 24).

Safiee also raised the issue of a new clinic to replace the old one that was burned in 2015 which had not been fully built ever since brick work finished about two years ago.

“The people have been asking repeatedly, ‘When is the new clinic going to be built?’

He urged for the Daro clinic construction to be accelerated. “This project should given priority because it was a project to replace the burnt building in the first place.”
