KAPIT: The Civil Servants Sports, Recreation and Social Club (Maksak) here organised a grand farewell gathering last Sunday for three senior civil servants.

The trio comprised Kapit Division Resident Joseph Belayong Punan, who is retiring; Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, who has been promoted to Sri Aman Deputy Resident, and Kapit Land and Survey Superintendent Jawan Tumba, who has been transferred to Sarawak Land and Survey headquarters in Kuching.

The gathering was also to welcome new Kapit District Officer Cerisologo Sabut and new Kapit Land and Survey Superintendent Sagu Unting.

Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang said the gathering, attended by some 400 guests, was a way to show appreciation for the excellent services and contributions by the civil servants.

Nyabong hoped that the new District Officer, who is from Rumah Achan near here, would serve the district with great zeal and commitment.

Meanwhile, Belayong said he was proud of his time in Kapit. “I started my career in Kapit and ended it in Kapit to complete the circle.”

“I feel very comfortable working in Kapit because of the close cooperation and teamwork among the elected people’s representatives, federal and state agencies, community leaders and the public.

“To me, it is a privilege to serve in Kapit. Officers come and go. What is important is I hope my successor will continue the development agenda here, especially the infrastructure,” he added.
