KUCHING: Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) and Sarawak Malay National Association (PKMS) have worked together to preserve the heritage and culture of Sarawak Malay marriage.

This collaboration between OKSHE and PKMS aims to expose the public to the ancient Sarawak Malay wedding customs.

Accordingly, OKSHE held a programme to recollect and display Malay customs at the Heritage House of Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abang Ahmad Urai, Kampung Heritage Trail Kuching on Saturday.

The residence is also very much in line with the theme of Sarawak’s Malay cultural presentation considering the architecture and design of the house which featured a high standard of craft skills in the past.

To further enliven the event, OKSHE also informed that it was assisted by Rumpun Silat Sarawak (RSS), a community involved in hadrah, Zapin Sebat and Sindang drumming, and so on involving the traditions of the Sarawak Malays.

Along side, they also showed to the public on how the Malay community served their guests during the wedding ceremony such as ‘hidang seperah’
