King and Queen begin Sarawak tour in Miri

The King and Queen have arrive in Miri via Sungai Tujoh ICQS at 12.10pm.They have their passports stamped at 12.12pm at one of the counters.

MIRI:  The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have embarked on the second leg of their Kembara Kenali Borneo Tour with their arrival here Saturday.

Earlier, they had stayed overnight in Brunei, after completing the first part of the tour in Sabah which started from Tawau on Sept 3.

Their Majesties and entourage entered the Sungai Tujoh Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) at 12.10pm and spent at about 30 minutes on a walkabout to meet well-wishers.

More than 10,000 people gathered along the road from Senadin up to the town area to welcome the royal couple.

The King and Queen were welcomed by  Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Sarawak Minister of Transport Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin and  State Secretary Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Thei Majesties arrival here marks the start of their tour of Bumi Kenyalang, which will end in Telok Melano on Sept 13.

Soon after their arrival the royal couple visited the Miri Handicraft Centre before stopping for lunch at Coco Cabana before heading for Kampung Pangkalan Lutong.

On Sunday (Sept 10)  their Majesties will visit Kampung Bungai for a community sports carnival and lunch before heading to Bintulu.

The whole Borneo tour will cover a distance of 2,154km via the Pan Borneo  Highway which connects the two Borneo states and Brunei Darusalam.
