KUCHING: The Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Blood Bank Unit managed to collect 50 pints of blood from police personnel and the public yesterday (May 3).

The blood donation drive, open to the public, was held at The Spring shopping mall in conjunction with the 216th Police Day celebration.

Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa officiated at the programme together with SGH Transfusion and Blood Bank Services Department head Dr Mohammad Masrin Md Zahri and The Spring Mall centre manager Datin Christine Ling.

A total of 75 donors consisting of senior police officers, junior police officers, civil servants and members of the public came forward voluntarily to donate their blood.

However, after health screenings, only 50 wee given the green light to donate.

In his opening speech, Merbin expressed his gratitude to SGH, The Spring shopping mall, the public and personnel of Kuching IPD, for making the programme a success.

“It is a noble practice in helping other people through blood donation and such an act also coincides with the Royal Malaysia Police’s motto of ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’,” he said.
