Lee thanks airlines for additional flights

MIRI: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin has Lee thanks airlines for additional flights thanked three airlines operating in Sarawak for providing 71 additional flights daily to Sarawak between Jan 18 and 31 to allow Sarawakians to return home for the Chinese New Year.

He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly during the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Miri’s Chinese New Year open house yesterday (Jan 25).

He said the airlines obliged his request following several discussions.

“Thanks for their cooperation there are 71 additional flights for from Jan 18 to 23,” he said.

In addition, Malaysia Airlines also agreed to provide bigger aircraft during the period which will result in extra seats capacity.

For Kuching there will be 23 additional flights, namely six AirAsia flights per day from Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur respectively, seven Malaysia Airlines flights from Kuala Lumpur and one from Kota Kinabalu, and three Firefly flights from Penang to Kuching.

As for Miri, AirAsia provided 17 additional flights daily – three from Johor Bharu and 11 from Kota Kinabalu.

AirAsia is providing 10 additional flights from Kuala Lumpur and four from Johor Bharu to Sibu, and Malaysia Airlines offered nine flights for the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu route.

Bintulu is not left out as AirAsia is offering nine additional flights per day from Kuala Lumpur.

Also present at the open house was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
