SIBURAN: Police have arrested a local man for allegedly being involved in an online gambling activity on Thursday (June 4) at Beratok Bazaar Mile 21, Kuching-Serian Road.

Padawan district police Chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the man was arrested following a 8.20pm raid at a convenience store in Beratok Town District.

“A team from Padawan police criminal investigation division (CID) arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly being involved in online gambling activity.

“Also seized during the operation was a Ding Ding branded phone and cash,” he said in a statement.

Aidil noted that during questioning, the suspect admitted to have worked as an online gambling seller for nearly a month.

The individual is currently detained to facilitate investigation under Section 4 (1) (c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (No.6) Regulations 2020.

Apart from that, the team also inspected a closed unnamed premise near the convenience store and will be conducted monitoring from time to time.
