MIRI: Police detained a man for allegedly attempting to murder his 44-year-old wife at their rented house in Kampung Lereng Bukit here.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted confirmed the arrest.
The incident was believed to have taken place in a bedroom of the house around 5.30pm on Friday.
The woman was taking a nap with her 14-year-old daughter when the suspect made his way towards his wife, aiming a machete at her.
He was then caught in the act by his daughter, who happened to be awake, and immediately exited the room.
A police report was lodged after the woman was alerted on the incident by her daughter.
The suspect has been detained for further questioning.
The incident was believed to have been driven by jealousy.
The case is framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
