SIBU: A 59-year-old man, known as Sia Ung Kwong, died after crashing his car onto a tree at around 1.20am yesterday.
Sibu District Police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the accident was investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“At about 1.20am, a fatal accident took place at Jalan Pedada Oya involving a car driven by Sia Ung Kwong, 59, from the direction of Pedada Oya Traffic Lights to the town centre.
“The victim was believed to have lost control and entered the opposite lane and died on the spot after ramming his car onto a tree,” he said.
The local police chief said this when contacted by reporters yesterday.
He said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
