MIRI: A 25-year-old farmer from a longhouse in Sungai Malang Bakong received eight stitches on his back after being attacked by a machete-wielding man near the Bekenu junction on Tuesday night.

According to Miri Police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah, the victim was on his way back after shopping for some grocery items at the nearby shops when the suspect suddenly emerged and began attacking him with a parang (machete).

“It was learnt that the victim was injured when he tried to fend the attacker off. So, he fled to a nearby clinic to seek help and treatment,” Lim said.

A police report was lodged on the day after the incident.

Following the report lodged, police on August 5 detained a 42 year-old man to assist in their investigation on the incident.

“The suspect has been remanded for four days for questioning,” the police chief said.

He added the attack incident might have triggered after a car battery belonging to the suspect went missing.
