TANJUNG MANIS: A 55-year-old man was reported missing when he failed to return home from a trip to gather firewood in a forest near Jalan Airport yesterday (Sept 4).

Affendi Morshidi, from Kampung Jerijeh Baru, is said to have gone into the forest alone around 11am.

Realising that he did not return home, his family conducted a search. They found the victim’s motorcycle by the roadside which prompted the family to lodge a missing person’s report around 6.50 pm.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Tanjung Manis station were deployed to the scene after being informed by the Civil Defence Force (APM).

The police also assisted in the search.

The rescuers launched a full-scale  search and rescue (SAR) operation. They proceeded about 1km deep in the forest, following the trail left by the victim.

However, the team failed to locate the victim’s whereabouts and the search was temporarily suspended last night.
