Police seeking suspect to facilitate investigation into a robbery case.

KUCHING: Police are on the hunt for an Indonesian suspect who allegedly robbed and beat up an elderly man at an eatery near Petanak Market last Sunday (Mar 26).

Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspect has been identified and the police are tracking him down.

“This is the first time (we have such a case) as it only involves only one suspect.

“We are still investigating the motive. The most important thing is that we have identified the suspect,” he told reporters today.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery, which provides for a maximum jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted.

Police confirmed that the suspect’s name is Rizal, an Indonesian in his 20s.

Last Sunday, the victim in his 60s, was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) after being beaten up and robbed by the suspect around 7.15 pm.

It is understood that the victim, who sustained severe head injuries, is now stable.
