Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), located in Kota Samarahan, has aroused the curiosity of those who wish to learn more about its distinct and varied culture, development and natural setting.

Do you know that UNIMAS is among the top 401 institutions in the world according to the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings? This proves that it is one of the best universities in the world.

So, it is not surprising that many students choose to further their studies here to experience a different vibe of campus.

UNIMAS recently welcomed more than 700 new students to its Centre for Pre-University Studies (PPPU).

The programmes include two semesters of teaching and learning as a preparation for them to pursue their degree level studies in the varsity.

For new students, their journey starts as soon as the pledge ceremony or Majlis Ikrar Pelajar (MIP) ends. It was the starting point for them to pursue their ambitions and hope.

I chose UNIMAS to gain more exposure and knowledge in other places, particularly Sarawak which is a great place for me to explore more. I’ve always been interested in the state; be its culture, language and so on. I aim to continue my studies in medicine here because UNIMAS is one of the best universities in medicine.

We completed our secondary school at SMK Batu Lintang, Kuching. We chose UNIMAS because it had a great reputation.
Most of our family members, especially our cousins, said UNIMAS was a great place to study. The buildings here are beautiful and have contemporary designs. Some parts are also made of glass. It feels like a shopping mall. UNIMAS was our first choice when applying for university admission because we did not want to leave our hometown.

I am interested in becoming a chemist. I like experimenting, especially with chemistry and it is my ambition to work in a lab. I want to continue my studies at the degree level in Chemical Engineering. Even though I am Sarawakian, Sibu and Kuching are still far from each other. The three-day orientation made the varsity feel like home. I am hoping for fun and exciting days in UNIMAS.
