LIMBANG: An attempt to smuggle in 34,000 litres of diesel was foiled by Limbang Marine Police on Sept 24.

Region Five Marine Police commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali, who confirmed the case, said a lorry and a tanker were stopped along Logpond Kubong for inspections.

“The team conducting ‘Ops Kontraban’ found a total of 25,000 litres of diesel inside the tanker and another 9,000 litres in the tank transported by a lorry.

“Examinations found that both drivers had failed to produce any documented permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said.

As a result, the drivers were arrested for allegedly committing an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Zulfikar added that both vehicles and the diesel with a total value of RM312,000, were seized for further investigation.

The case is handed over to Limbang KPDNHEP investigating officer for further action.
