SIBU: Marine police here thwarted two locals’ attempt to transport 700 litres of diesel with separate vehicles for the purpose of reselling last night (Oct 17).

In the operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’, two suspicious vehicles namely a pickup truck and a SUV, were detained for inspections at 8.30pm and 8.45pm along Jalan Tuanku Osman.

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the team found 700 litres of diesel being transported through iron tanks that were modified in the vehicles.

Both drivers aged 24 and 45, had failed to submit any documentary evidence of permission to possess or store or carry controlled items without a permit or license or special permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

“The police suspected that the subsidized diesel was obtained through purchase from fuel stations around Sibu.

“It is also believed that the diesel is collected for the purpose of reselling at the industrial price,” he said.
