Marine police foils smuggle attempt

KUCHING: The Marine police have foiled an attempt to smuggle alcoholic beverages worth RM30, 000 in a raid at Tabuan Jaya.

State Marine Police Region Five (PPMW5) ACP Shamsol Kassim said 4,800 bottles of alcoholic beverages were seized from a truck during the 12pm raid on Wednesday.

“Upon further inspection, we found that the alcoholic beverages had an estimated worth of RM30, 000 including tax.

“All the alcoholic beverages were seized including the RM120, 000 truck while the driver and his assistant, were detained for investigation.”

The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967.

Meanwhile, Shamsol also revealed that as of the month of November, the Marine Police Region Five had recorded 38 cases under the same Act, with seizures amounting to RM7.4 million.
