KUCHING: An eatery worker here was assaulted after asking customers to wear their face masks.

According to sources, the incident occurred around 9.15am yesterday when the eatery was patronised by two customers, a male and a female, without their masks on.

A female worker, who attended to them, requested the duo to wear their masks as standard operating procedure (SOP) required by the authorities during the recovery movement control order.

They allegedly refused, and told the worker off rudely, saying that other eateries did not require customers to wear masks, and at the same time, got into a confrontation with other customers.

The complainant, who is a male worker, was stationed in the kitchen at the time of the incident, and he saw the commotion and tried to intervene, to which he was assaulted by the male customer. The duo fled the scene.

A police report has been lodged for further action.
