DATUK Ding Kuong Hiing (GPS-Meradong) has appealed to the Sarawak government to allocate funds for a haemodialysis centre in Sungai Tulai, Bintangor.

“In view of the long waiting list for kidney patients to undergo haemodialysis in Sarikei, the Sungai Tulai community association in collaboration with Kidney Foundation Malaysia have come up with the idea of setting up a haemodialysis centre in Sungai Tulai to alleviate the critical situation that Sarikei Hospital could not cope.

“The proposed land and necessary subdivision application has been approved by relevant authority and the running of the said haemodialysis centre, will be self-sustaining once it is completed.

“Since it is a high impact project that will benefit many people in and around Meradong, I appeal to our Premier to consider allocating a ‘Projek Rakyat’ amounting to RM5.5mil so that the said project can be implemented as soon as possible,” he said when debating in support of the Supply (2023) Bill 2022 that was tabled by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Other than that, Ding also pointed out that the delay in a contractor taking possession of the proposed Package CR1 (Central Region) for Sarawak Water Supply Grid Programme – Stressed Area, Meradong due to the Pan Borneo Construction, has resulted in a substantial delay in completion of the project.

He stated that the people of Meradong, especially residents in Sungai Lemayong longhouses, have been anxiously waiting for the project to complete so that they can enjoy clean water with better water pressure.

“Therefore, I would like to urge Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to monitor the situation closely and try to connect the water supply to Sungai Lemaong area as earliest as possible.

“At the same time, I was told that sufficient water supply to my constituency, depends very much on the Proposed Upgrading and Extension of Bayong Treatment plant in Sarikei.

“Again, I would like to appeal to the relevant agencies to monitor the said project closely to ensure earliest completion possible,” Ding said.
