MIRI: A total of 87 out of 100 people successfully donated their blood during the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association’s (NSJA) blood drive on Monday (Jan 2) at Bintang Megamall shopping complex here.

The blood drive was launched by Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong, accompanied by NSJA president Andy Jong Wan Joon. It kicked off at 9.30am and wrapped up four hours later.

Dr Wong disclosed that for this year, Miri Hospital’s blood bank had set a goal of collecting 9,000 pints of blood and organise at least 126 blood drives.

“This is indeed a very ambitious target but I believe that though cooperation and collaboration from every Mirian, we shall be able to achieve this. Let us work together to make this goal a success.”

Dr Wong added that the Ministry of Health was also looking at ways to strengthen the record keeping of blood donations.

“Now, blood donors still must bring along your blood donation booklet during each visit. The process of updating their blood donation record can only be done at blood bank, Miri Hospital. In future, your records may be registered digitally, which enables you to monitor your donation more effectively.”

He also called on organisations, society, government departments and non-governmental organisations to liaise with Miri Hospital blood bank to book future appointments.

“Individuals can also drop by the blood bank during office hours to donate blood at Miri Hospital.”
