MMEA holds ‘Friends of Maritime’ programme at Kampung Kuala Nyalau

BINTULU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here yesterday held ‘Friends of Maritime’ programme at Kampung Kuala Nyalau, about 70 kilometres from here.

The programme, which was part of MMEA’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards Bintulu community, was a platform to strengthen the esprit-de-corps between MMEA, other government agencies, the public and the community.

Offciating at the event, Samalaju State Assemblyman Majang Renggi said the event was in line with the government’s effort in ‘prioritising the people’ by going to the ground to meet and gather feedback from the people.

He also commended the close cooperation among the main key industry players around Bintulu like Press Metal, Bank Simpanan Nasional, Bank Rakyat, CIMB Bank, Sarawak River Board, JPJ, Health Department, Bintulu Bikers Community and Sarawak Commercial Diving Association.

Earlier, MMEA Sarawak Region director, First Admiral Ismail Bujang Pit commended MMEA Bintulu for detaining two fishing trawlers off Kuala Nyalau in March.

Meanwhile, the Volunteer Reserve Corps of MMEA Bintulu District, which has 40 members drawn from Kampung Nyalau and surrounding villages, was also launched by Majang.

The ‘Friends of Maritime’ programme also saw the construction of a shed at the jetty on gotong-royong basis with the villagers.

Among those present included Kuching Maritime Director Shahref Steve Mac Queen Abdullah, Deputy General Manager of Press Metal Dr Siew Eng Fui and Low Kwong Fui, KK Amit Saleh, heads of departments and community leaders.
