BETONG: The Public Works Department (JKR) has been told to closely monitor the ongoing construction of three big projects in Spaoh near here.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas gave the advice after a briefing by Betong JKR on a number of ongoing projects here.
According to Uggah, the three projects include the Bebuling Airport, the Sungai Paku bridge and the Debak-Tuie road.
At the briefing, Uggah was told the Bebuling Airport was 18.99 percent off its construction schedule.
The RM108 million project was scheduled to be completed on 17th September this year.
“The delay is caused by a delay in the construction of an access road to bring in the machinery and materials. Bad weather had also been another factor,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 27).
However, Uggah said the contractor had resolved the issue and was catching up on the delay with sufficient machinery and manpower at the site.
On the Sungai Paku bridge at Tanjung Sebekut, he said there was a 6.71 percent delay in construction.
“This is due to the slow performance by the contractor, delayed arrival of construction materials from Peninsular Malaysia and slow delivery of machinery and construction materials to the site,” he explained.
The 100m long steel arch bridge costing RM26.75 million is scheduled to be completed on November 5, 2023.
“Its construction commenced on May 6, 2021 and its new completion date is now revised to December 21, 2023.”
Uggah said all contractors must take note of the steps taken by JKR to catch up on the delays.
“They too must comply with all terms and conditions of their contracts,” he said.
